Dear Genius ...

Several weeks ago, my pal Rick shared with me the link to this video.

Today, he reminded me of it.

I had, of course, completely forgotten.

But today was exactly the right time for me to hear this message.

For anyone who has ever, even for a moment, entertained any self-doubt about their creativity, please take 20 minutes to watch this:

One added note to Beth's endorsement: the first time you watch this, it would be a good idea to have a few tissues handy.

Elizabeth Gilbert is so overrated it's not even funny. And laughing herself all the way to the bank.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but did you watch what she had to say in this clip, or just dismiss her because you don't like her work?

Elizabeth Gilbert produces cotton candy for the brain.

If it's inspiration you're looking for, there's much more substantial fare to be had -- e.g. the documentary on Philip Glass that was on PBS this past week.

What Elizabeth Gilbert said about the creative process resonated with me. Just because you don't like her doesn't mean that she's incapable of saying something of value.

I'm sure I could be equally inspired by a documentary about Philip Glass. It's the discussion of the creative process I appreciate, not necessarily the artist saying the words.

I appreciate that not everyone likes "Eat, Pray, Love." But that shouldn't automatically discredit everything Gilbert says.
