World, Meet Spellcheck. Spellcheck, World ...

Because I continue to see it misspelled and it bugs the crap out of me:

It's "millennium," people. Two Ls, two Ns (and two Ms and two Is and an E and a U, but most people seem to do OK with those letters). Not "millenium."

Even though none of us will be here to see the next one roll around, if you're going to use the word, learn how to spell it.

Ain't wasn't a word, not that long ago.
Get used to it.

"Ain't" still isn't a word.
And there's a difference between making up a word and it being accepted into the lexicon versus misspelling an existing word.
Learn how to spell it.

Speaking of spellcheck, it's "masochist," not "mascohist" -- as in your blog post of a couple of days previous.

Thanks for pointing that out. I've fixed it.

There's a difference between a typo, though, and not knowing how to spell a word in the first place.

On "60 Minutes" on Sunday during Morley Safer's piece about the "Millennials," they featured a couple of 20-somethings who are making their livings by advising other 20-somethings on how to grow up, basically. Cut to b-roll of a web site created by one of the 20-somethings and I saw "millenial." I almost threw a shoe through my television.

And FYI, Blogger's spellcheck sucks.
