Pain Turns To Anger ...

The numbness seems to be wearing off.

The national shock over the devastation in New Orleans and Mississippi seems to be subsiding and the tide is turning to anger.

A group of friends was gathered outside a local watering hole this afternoon, and the conversation became consumed with the crisis. One new friend, disgusted with the Bush administration's response, said, "Things will change in 2008."

I said, "I think things will change in 2006."

There is no way to spin the government's lackluster response to this disaster. Bush, finally, in the face of withering news reports, admitted that the response has not been acceptable.

Really? Well, gosh, George, the American people have known that for days. You know how? We watch TV. We read newspapers.

It took a Category 4 hurricane and the destruction of an entire city to rally the media, but the independent press is back. Judith Miller may still be in jail, but her colleagues behind the keyboards and in front of the cameras aren't letting the government off the hook this time.

Ted Koppel gave FEMA's Michael Brown hell on "Nightline," and Brown could do nothing but take it. Perhaps he's used to facing more docile creatures. After all, he spent almost all of the '90s as the Commissioner of the International Arabian Horse Association, a position which is not mentioned in his biography on FEMA's Web site.

Could that be because that decade of his life did NOTHING to prepare him to lead this country during a disaster? But here's a gem: "In 2004, Mr. Brown led FEMA's thousands of dedicated disaster workers during the most active hurricane season in over 100 years, as FEMA delivered aid more quickly and more efficiently than ever before."

I guess practice doesn't make perfect after all.

As I've said before, history will write W's legacy, and what a legacy it will be: Two indecisive elections, implementing massive tax cuts for his rich friends, lying about the cost of the Medicare prescription program, lying to the country to take us into a war for which no one thought to plan an exit strategy, overriding the wishes of Congress to appoint Bolton as ambassador to the U.N. (even though Bolton has openly shown his disdain for the world body), taking a budget surplus and spending his way into the biggest deficit ever recorded, refusing to take time out of his vacation to meet with the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq (so he can ride his bike and read a book about the history of salt, instead; by the way, he's taken nearly a year's worth of vacation since he first took office. That's about 20 percent of his time as president spent vacationing. Do you get 10 weeks of vacation a year from your job?), the swelling of gas prices to well over $3 a gallon ($4 if you live in California, $5 and $6 if you live in Georgia), and then, bless his little heart, actually cutting that vacation short by two whole days to pretend to address the worst natural disaster in the nation's history.

There's just one thing I want to know, George: The history of salt: How does it end? Are pouring and wounds involved?

Holy smokes! Beth is on fire!
Who knew that "The Pet Goat" would actually be a high-water mark in Bush's presidency.
Hey, here's an idea. Remember when people sent hot sauce to UPN to protest the cancellation of "Roswell"? Maybe everybody should send a salt shaker to the White House! :)
You know, to peaceably protest and all.
While we still can.

This, along with all the "other Bush-Hate-Bashing" is soooo funny. The Left-Media whores, never complained when covering their "Hero-Clinton"...In tripping over themselves, they covered the "fake, beach-romping
couple dancing in the surf(photo-op to pretend they actually "liked each other"),Bill eating ice cream cones in Martha's Vineyard, Bill wolfing down burgers at numerous places, AND, in the "Gift Shop", while he supposedly picked up a souvenior for Monica..etc, etc, etc.... The left-media-whores have,
and always will have hatred for President Bush and
his family.....BUT, WE out here, that "Voted Him For Yet ANOTHER TERM," are laughing our butts off,
as the pathetic Leftists, can't come up with the NEXT BUSH-BASHING EXAMPLE, "fast enough"...TOO BAD and TOO SAD....They need to get over their losses, which are only going to continue, as their
BASHING, OBSTRUCTIONISM AND HATREDS, are a gift to the red staters.

Ah, yes, enjoy your free speech.
While you still have it.
I know Clinton was not loved by the Elephants in this country, but when Clinton left office, he handed W a budget surplus, and five short years later, we have the biggest deficit in history.
When Clinton ran the country, he didn't like to the nation to take us to a war that's cost thousands of lives, nevermind the billions of dollars.
When Clinton was in office, well, you get the idea ...
Clinton's biggest failure as a president (let's skip Monicagate; Bill's sexual escapades are his business), by his own admission today, is that he didn't do more about the genocide in Rwanda. Many people died in this world during his presidency, but he's not the one who put them in harm's way.

Enjoy my freedom of speech while I still have it? You censor your blog. Pot calling the kettle black? Clinton's biggest problem, and this will be his legacy, is that he did nothing in his 8 years. He hijacked the republican's contract with America. The 1993 WTC bombing, Clinton didn't even visit the site. What about the time Clinton stopped air traffic across America when he stopped Air Force 1 on the tarmac to get a haircut?

Dear Anonymous:
I don't mean to get in a pissing match with you. I don't censor my blog. I delete spam comments that have nothing to do with the post, and include links that may or may not be unsavory and/or unsafe. You'll note that your comments have been left alone, and they will be. I'm a writer. The First Amendment is near and dear to my heart. And our rights to our opinions is what makes this country the great place it is. I don't like Bush. You don't like that I don't like Bush. That's fine. We can still be friends.

I have to agree with anonymous' comments. I am so sick and tired of the Democratic "blame Bush" response to EVERYTHING! I'm waiting for the Michael Moores of the world to say that Bush conjured up Katrina to distract us from Iraq. The gall of race-baiting Democrats like Jesse Jackson to say that we're intentionally stranding the victims leaving them to die because they are poor and black is absurd. Primary responsibility for this disaster remains with local officials like Democratic Mayor Nagin and Democratic Governor Blanco, not President Bush. FEMA was created in 1979 to ASSIST state and local governments in major disasters. Where was the leadership from Nagin and Blanco? New Orleans has long known of the effects of a category 4 or 5 hurricane, but did nothing to prepare. The people of New Orleans were warned days before landfall to evacuate. Their wonderful mayor and governor did almost nothing to evacuate the city. The city had an outlined plan in case of such an emergency, but why was none of it followed? It specifically called for the use of city owned and school buses to evacuate the population. The city plan clearly acknowledges its responsibility in the plan that decisions involving a proper and orderly evacuation lie with the governor, mayor and local authorities. Nowhere is the president or federal government even mentioned.
I feel for these poor people and the devistation and loss they have encountered. I can't even fathom what they must be going through. But to blame Bush, yet again, is absurd and unfair.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE y'all. Can't we all just get along? NO. Not only NO, but HELL NO. You neo-con idiots just don't understand honesty. FEMA is a FEDERAL AGENCY!!! It's totally unqualified leader(?) was selected by the totally unqualified former leader(?) who was appointed by The Shrub. See. When the bass tells someone to do something and that someone tells someone else to do it if the last someone screws it up THE BOSS IS STILL RESPONSIBLE. It's about RESPONSIBILITY STUPID. But everything is going to be O.K. Shrub is going to investigate himself, the Rapeapublicans are going to investigate themselves, and everybody will learn NOBODY DID ANYTHING, so how could anyone have done ANYTHING WRONG? Ain't life wonderful. See the Gov. of Fla is a "Little Shrub" so if somebody gets a hangnail down there the Feds cough up BIG BUCKS - REALLY, REALLY QUICK. The Gov. of LA is a Democrat so "The Shrub" & his minions figure "jeez what an opportunity to get rid of a bunch of them Democrat votin black folks down South. I mean after all, just like Momma Shrub said, since them poor folks never had much this is a really good deal for em.
Lord Save This Country From Rapeapublicans!!!
